Excerpted from the Australia Career Guide
When traveling to Australia for work
or pleasure, the correct documentation from Australia’s Department
of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA) is
essential. This government department manages the entry of people
into the country for tourism, business, education and permanent
relocation. DIMIA also handles the settlement of migrants and
refugees so that they can participate equitably in society, as well
as broader promotion of the benefits of citizenship and cultural
diversity.
Prior to arrival, all non-citizens of Australia must obtain an
appropriate visa for entry into Australia. Australia has specific
systems to facilitate travel by tourists, business visitors and
long-term visitors (students and business workers).
The variety of visa types and subclasses makes it especially
important to define one’s activities or work in Australia to apply
for the correct subclass. The documentation requirements are
imposing but manageable.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete
Australia guide.
