Before applying for a job in Canada,
the international jobseeker should outline the main objectives of
his/her employment. As in any country, growth and opportunity in an
industry or particular career can vary depending upon location. Due
to its sheer size, the geographical distance in Canada can make it
hard for the jobseeker to find information; however, the Internet
has made job seeking much easier and has nearly eliminated this
difficulty.The international
job applicant should prepare traditional forms of the cover letter
and résumé/CV, but another upcoming trend is the portfolio. In the
past, this format has been limited to artists and designers, but
portfolios are often now used as a visual representation of career
and life accomplishments. If used wisely, a portfolio can be a good
way to pique a potential employer’s interest. Even better, if a copy
of a portfolio can be left with the interviewer (not the original);
it may provide another reason for further contacts.
