   :: Interviewing Advice

Excerpted from the India Career Guide

While interviewing in India is like anywhere else in the world in terms of basic strategy, the cultural norms in India also present a few challenges that job applicants should know prior to the session in order to achieve the best result.

Dress conservatively for the interview. Men usually dress in Western attire, although a full suit and tie is not usually expected except when the weather is cool. It is generally acceptable for men to wear a pressed shirt, open at the collar, with dress pants, a belt and closed shoes. Women may wear either Western business clothes or Indian attire, whichever is more comfortable. However, short skirts, sleeveless tops, tight-fitting blouses, revealing tops and pants should be avoided.

Allow extra time to get to an interview, as traffic jams, poor directions and the unexpected occur with greater frequency in India than in many other places.

This is just a sample of what you will find in the complete India guide.
