The population of Peru is approximately 28 million. Economic indicators show that the inflation rate is 1.1 percent, a rate which is somewhat below the rate established by the central bank (1.5 percent to 2.5 percent). This indicates that consumer prices for the country are below average. Its GDP is approximately eight percent and is on the rise, indicating a consistent growth of the overall economic conditions. The unemployment rate currently rests at 8.5 percent.
Since 2002, the workforce in Peru has grown by approximately one million to total more than 13,800 million people. Although this number seems high, there is a low absorption rate in decent jobs. This means Peru has a high under employment rate (52.6 percent) and a high percentage of people who work without benefits like health insurance or who do not pay taxes. The unemployment rate currently hovers around nine percent. The low investment rate in the country generates a job deficit which can only be reduced if investments grow in a sustainable way and are aimed at labor intensive sectors.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete Peru guide.
