The
Manpower Employment Outlook Survey (MEOS) found strong employment
prospects for Australia’s job seekers in its survey of 2,597
employers across the country, with about one third of those surveyed
indicating hiring plans. Employers in all of the seven regions
surveyed expect to add staff with Western Australia exhibiting the
highest optimism for net employment outlook (+42 percent). The
Northern Territory and Victoria also anticipate strong growth (+38
percent and +34 percent respectively), followed by Queensland (+28
percent), New South Wales (+26 percent), South Australia (+24
percent) and Tasmania (+19 percent). The industries which have the
most optimism for adding new staff appear to be mining and
construction (+39 percent), finance/insurance/real estate (+34
percent) and services (+33 percent). While hiring prospects in all
sectors are positive, transportation/utilities (+28 percent) and
public administration/education (+24 percent) both express less
optimism than found in the previous year. The sector with the
weakest job market appears to be manufacturing (+23 percent).
