Excerpted from the Canada Career Guide
The environmental industry has changed a great deal since Canada
made its first commitment to sustainable development. Many new or
hybrid occupations have resulted, including environmental
technologist, environmental lawyer and environmental policy analyst.
Environmental specialists may have specialized degrees or hold
diplomas in fields as chemistry, water resources, biology, geology,
hydrogeology, forestry, wildlife conservation, civil engineering,
public administration or law. This is a cross-sector industry, which
means that people who work in forestry, the oil and gas industry, or
public administration, for instance, may have an environmental
label. According to Human Resource Development Canada, the
environmental industry employs more than 225,000 people. Key players
include federal, provincial or municipal governments, environmental
management and consulting companies, academia, industry and
environmental non-governmental organizations (ENGOs), as well as
companies actively involved in resource management (including waste
management).
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete guide.
