Excerpted from the United Kingdom Career Guide
Although the United Kingdom, and London in particular, is an expensive place for expatriates to live, the jobseeker should not immediately dismiss its potential since UK earnings tend to match its cost of living.
In general, it is much cheaper to live in areas outside of London; however, London also offers both the highest diversity and availability of job opportunities and therefore remains a popular destination for expatriate workers. Most of the figures provided in this section apply to cost of living in London --including items such as housing, transportation, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment--rather than the country at large. The cost of living in the UK drops significantly outside the capital city.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete United Kingdom guide.
