China: Work Permits and Visas
Chinese visas are available for travelers who plan to visit China, Hong Kong or Macau. The visa system is highly regimented and very detailed in its guidance. It may seem bureaucratic but the rules on how to apply for different visas are clearly described and require time and patience in order to complete the application processes.
It is important to note that the Chinese government is quite clear about whom it does not want to enter China. The Chinese government websites state, "Any person suffering from a mental disorder, leprosy, AIDS, venereal diseases, contagious tuberculosis or other such infectious diseases shall not be permitted to enter China." Visitors should avoid omitting or falsifying any visa applications or supporting documents, as the consequences could be severe if they enter China using a visa obtained under false pretenses.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, beginning January 20, 2008, the visa fees for US citizens are adjusted on a reciprocal basis. The details are as follows:
- No matter the number of entries, the visa fee for the individual applicant will be 130 USD per person.
-
- Visa fees for group visas will be 110 USD per person.
- Expedited service fees will be charged as usual.
